QUEZON CITY - The UST Golden Tigresses drew first blood in the UAAP Season 81 Women's Volleyball Finals by beating the Ateneo Lady Eagles in three sets, 25-17 25-16, 25-20, Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Newly-crowned Most Valuable Player Sisi Rondina led the Tigresses with 23 points, 20 spikes, two blocks, 12 excellent digs and five excellent receptions.
Setter Alina Bicar chipped in 19 excellent sets and two service aces, while Rookie of the Year Eya Laure added 11 points with nine spikes.
Best Opposite Spiker Kat Tolentino is the only double-digit scorer for the Lady Eagles with 12 points, on 10 spikes and two blocks.
Seniors Maddie Madayag and Bea de Leon were limited to six and four points only respectively for this match.
Game 2 will be on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
