BIÑAN—Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez got a new supporter in no less than Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea as he takes on a new role as the chef de mission for the Philippine Team to the Southeast Asian Games.

"The executive secretary extends his full support to Chairman William Ramirez of the Philippine Sports Commission for taking on the responsibility as chef de mission of the Philippine team to the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games," Medialdea said in a statement on Saturday night.

He added, "We commend him for taking the extra time to study the responsibilities of the position and only accepting after he has determined that he can successfully perform them."

Following a shock shakeup at the Philippine Olympic Committee earlier in the week that saw Monsour Del Rosario being stripped of the CDM spot among four others, the said position was offered to Ramirez, but he initially declined.

But in a turn of events 24 hours after, Ramirez eventually accepted the CDM role.

"With Chairman Ramirez's leadership, we have great confidence in the success of the upcoming SEA Games becoming a reality," Medialdea further stated. "Chairman Ramirez's knowledge and experience leaves no doubt that he is the best person to get the job done."

He then concluded, "A unified effort from all the stakeholders, including the public is necessary for the success of the SEA Games and Philippine sports. Let this be a call for unity and ignite the flames of bayanihan that will sustain us in our road for gold in the upcoming 30th SEA Games and the success of Philippine sports to come."
