By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA—The Philippines' stint in the FIBA 3x3 Moscow Challenger came to an abrupt end early Saturday (Philippine Time) as Pasig was knocked out of playoff contention due to a loss to Riga, 17-21, in a must-win clash at the Gorky Park.

Needing a win to stay in the quarterfinal race, the Kings raced to a 4-0 start.

However, the Ghetto answered with nine straight markers to open a 9-4 lead.

They even threatened to break away as two straight deuces from the high-flying Nauris Miezis opened an 18-10 cushion with 4:48 remaining.

Pasig fought back, cutting the lead down to just three, 20-17, with 2:16 left.

But a technical foul by Taylor Statham sealed Pasig's fate as Karlis Lasmanis scored the technical free throw for the knockout.

Agnis Cavars led Riga, which swept Pool B, with eight points, while Miezis finished with seven.

Lasmanis added four markers, while Edgars Krumins chipped in 2.

Joshua Munzon led Pasig with seven points, while Statham added five.

Dylan Ababou chipped in four markers, while Nikola Pavlovic was held to just one point.

The Scores:

Riga 21 - ÄŒavars 8, Miezis 7, Lasmanis 4, Krumins 2.

Pasig 17 - Munzon 7, Statham 5, Ababou 4, Pavlovic 1.
