TAGUIG--Team Phenom and Gilas Pilpinas Women reigned supreme in the Red Bull Reign Philippine National Finals on Saturday night at The Arena at Kerry Sports.
Made up of lady ballers who already had experience playing for the country in FIBA 3x3 international tournaments, Gilas Pilipinas Women made quick work of Zamboanga, 22-6, in the women's final.
The team of Janine Pontejos, Clare Castro, Jack Animam, and Afril Bernardino, the same squad that Gilas Pilipinas Women sent to the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup last May in Changsha, raced to an 18-1 lead and simply overpowered its foe down south.
Meanwhile, in a virtual battle between two representatives of the Basilan Steel in the tournament, their "Team B", consisting of Michole Sorela, Junjie Hallare, and Shaq Alanes, overcame the dominating presence of Prince Eze for the team listed under the Basilan in an intense battle capped by Sorela's dagger deuce for the 22-19 knockout.
Both Phenom and Gilas Pilipinas Women are heading to Toronto for the world finals.
