Phoenix slaps fine on Abueva for altercation with Parks's GF

BIÑAN—Phoenix sanctioned Calvin Abueva for his actions pointed toward the girlfriend of Blackwater rookie Ray-Ray Parks late into their showdown on Friday night.

Abueva was seen confronting tennis player turned actress Maika Rivera after he fouled out in the game won by the Fuel Masters.

An irate Parks claimed after the game that Abueva hurled the b-word on Rivera as well as doing a lewd gesture at her.

"As a preventive measure, we have decided to deduct P20,000 from the salary of Mr. Abueva which has been communicated to him and has accepted such decision," Phoenix said in a statement on Saturday. "The P20,000 shall be given or donated to a charity chosen by the fan or in the alternative by the PBA."

The team added, "We regret the incident that has stoked emotions among players and fans."

In conclusion, Phoenix stated, "We wish to move forward from this regrettable incident, which we believed were caused by our emotional attachment to the sport we love most."
