MANILA—Jhapz Bautista came up with a statement game for Basilan in an 87-78 win against Valenzuela in the MPBL Lakan Season at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in Malolos on Wednesday night.
Bautista fired 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting for the Steel, who slowly pulled away from the Classic as the game went on, eventually opening a lead as high as 17 points midway through the fourth quarter.
He also had seven rebounds and one assist for Basilan, which snapped a two-game slide and moved up to 4-3.
Jay Collado added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block, and two steals.
Chris De Chavez had his own blast, scoring 23 points, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out three assists, taking five steals, and blocking two shots for Valenzuela, which slipped to 4-4.
