Sy hits late goal as Stallion Laguna pips heavily retooled Mendiola

By Ivan Saldajeno

CARMONA—Abou Sy saved the day for Stallion Laguna as the club survived a newly-bolstered Mendiola side, 1-0, in the Philippines Football League at the PFF National Training Centre on Saturday.

A far cry from the 6-1 blowout it had in their first meeting, Stallion Laguna had a hard time dealing with a toughened Mendiola defense made possible by the debut of new signings Ricki Sendra, Soul Ndepe, and goalie Dini Outtara.

Sy, however, found the net in the 80th minute to break the ice and eventually give Stallion Laguna the win.

Now at 17 points, Stallion Laguna moved to within two points of joint leaders Ceres Negros and Kaya Iloilo in the league table.

Ceres Negros, however, has a chance to take open a gap with Kaya Iloilo at the top spot as it battles Green Archers United on Sunday at the said venue.

Mendiola remains in fifth place with four points to show.
