MANILA—Marcio Lassiter has been officially ruled out of Gilas Pilipinas Men for the FIBA World Cup.

Coach Yeng Guiao confirmed the development on Friday night following the national team's tuneup win against Adelaide at the Meralco Gym in Pasig.

"Hindi na siya aabot," Guiao simply said.

Lassiter suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in San Miguel's PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal game against NorthPort on July 24.

Lassiter's injury takes six weeks the soonest to completely heal, making him only available for Gilas Men if they qualify for the second round of the FIBA worlds, and Guiao opted not to wait for Lassiter's recovery to end.

Gilas Men are grouped with Italy, Serbia, and Angola in the group stages.

With Lassiter now out for Gilas Men, he can only play by the middle of September, or just in time for the Beermen's campaign in The Terrific 12.
