PASAY CITY - The Pasay Voyagers's winning streak is extended to 6 games in a row as they defeated the Paranaque Patriots, 79-60 at the Cuneta Astrodome, Tuesday night.
Star player Jan Jamon was out for the Voyagers due to a fractured hand. Pasay will be missing their main playmaker for about a month or so, but in their game against the Patriots, it didn't matter that Jamon is not playing as the whole team stepped up in the game.
Elmar Moradas took the challenge of Pasay losing Jamon to injury on a positive note and lead the team to another win, with him finishing off with 17 points.
The Patriots started strong, leading as much as 4-0 in the opening quarter until Moradas was able to score to tally in a 4-2 score. That was the only time that Paranaque took the lead in the entire ball game as Pasay went on to take full control.
Jaypee Belencion scored a triple to give Pasay an advantage 4-5, and from there, the Voyagers did not look back.
Pasay went on to a 7-0 scoring run before Paranaque's Jemal Vizcarra sank a three-pointer to break the scoring spell, making it a 9-point trail for the Patriots; 7-16.
With 4:27 left in the period, Raymund Ilagan had to be subbed off due to a cut he sustained on his right eyebrow off an apparent elbow. Ilagan sat through what is left of the opening quarter as he was given medical attention but was later on given the clearance to play in the second period.
Rocky Antonares opened the second quarter on a good note for the Patriots as he cuts their trail by 10 points off his driving lay-up; 21-11. Paranaque came as close as a 6-point trail in the game as Rene Banzali scored a basket, only to be spoiled by Belencion's triple to help the Voyagers pull through and lead by 9; 24-33.
Vizcarra closed the quarter with the Patriots trailing by 7; 35-28.
At the resumption of play from the halftime break, Paranaque continued to play better basketball that allowed them to cut their trail by 5 points; 32-37 with Vizcarra scoring from a jump shot. However, Pasay was able to quickly recover after Don Reverente's effort to score a basket from an assist by Axel Inigo, bringing their lead up to 7; 32-39.
Both teams missed a lot of chances to score in the third period but Pasay remained in control as they were able to tally in a 9-point advantage; 42-51.
Pasay went all out in the fourth period as the used their prowess in scoring from the outside to lead as much as 21 points. In the last few minutes of the game, all three active home grown players of the Voyagers were fielded in the game much to the delight of the crowd with Aldrin Telpo scoring the last basket for Pasay that gave the biggest lead of the entire game; 79-58.
Michael Saguiguit closed the game with Paranaque trailing by 19; 79-60.
