Stallion Laguna snatches draw with Ceres Negros in lone PFL Saturday action

By Ivan Saldajeno

BIÑAN—Stallion Laguna played a spoiler role on Saturday as it forced Ceres Negros to a 1-1 draw in their last PFL meeting at the Biñan Football Stadium.

Robert Mendy appeared to have sparked Ceres Negros' breakaway with a fourth minute header goal.

However, Abou Sy found the net three minutes later to knot things up.

With striker Bienve Marañon out for the match due to personal reasons, Ceres Negros lacked the necessary offensive firepower to repulse Stallion Laguna on the road.

In fact, it was Stallion Laguna which had huge chances to win, especially with another Sy attempt on a one-on-one with Roland Muller in the second half.

Muller just saved the ball after drawing closer to Sy to thwart his shot.

While Ceres Negros (50 points) stretched its lead over Kaya Iloilo (43) at the top of the league table to seven points, it opened a chance for the latter to get back on the title track.

Kaya Iloilo will face Mendiola on Wednesday at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa.

Meanwhile, Stallion Laguna strengthened its hold of third place in the table as the club moved up to 33 points, seven ahead of idle Green Archers United, which will host Ceres Negros in the main game of the Lipa doubleheader also on Wednesday.

Stallion Laguna also has a match scheduled on Wednesday, a home game against Air Force.
