UP extends winning streak to three, halting UE

ANTIPOLO CITY -  Fighting Maroons claim win number three after surpassing UE's second half rally, 62-56, bringing them to solo second in the standings, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Ynares Center Antipolo.

Leading as much as 13 points by the end of the second quarter, the Maroons' lead was cut down to 1 with two minutes remaining in the game, 56-57. 

An assist by Kobe Paras to Jaydee Tungcab for a trey, and a split from the charity line, kept the squad from Diliman alive.

Paras continued his excellent ball game with a 12-point, 10-rebound doubel double outing while reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player - Bright Akhuetie - cooked up 16 points with 5 rebounds, 3 dimes, 2 steals, and a block.

Alex Diakhite shined for the Red Warriors with 21 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 assists.

UP's next assignment is the DLSU Green Archers on Wednesday, September 5 at 4:00pm while UE squares off against the defending champions - Ateneo Blue Eagles - on Wednesday, September 25 at 12:30pm.
