US Open: Alex Eala dominates Poulos, advances to Round 2

By Kristoffer Ed Bellen

MANILA--Alex Eala made a quick work of Australia's Annerly Poulos, 6-1, 6-2, to advance at the second round of the 2019 US Open at Billie Jean King Tennis Center, in New York, Tuesday (Manila time).

Eala, who has never lost a single set since the qualifiers, needed only 57 minutes to dispatch her former doubles teammate.

The 14-year-old hotshot, who is now inside the Top 100 of the world girls' juniors rankings (#99), continued to impress in her return game, converting four of her seven total break points and winning almost half of her receving points.

Eala will meet the winner between eighth seed Hurricane Tyra Black of United States and Mai Napatt Nirundorn of Thailand, whose match is ongoing as of posting.
