MANILA—Bowling World Cup qualifier Merwin Tan has expressed high hopes of sustaining his charge in this year’s Southeast Asian Games hosting.

Known for his consistency and great attitude, the 20-year-old is expected to make it to the Philippine Bowling Federation’s national team of four men and four ladies who will play in the biennial meet set Nov. 30-Dec. 11 at the Starmall Bowling Center in Mandaluyong City.

Tan, also supported by Prima Pasta Chairman Alex Lim, believes that he will harvest the fruit of his labor once the competition begins.

“I am very determined because this year was a learning experience for me. All the tournaments that I have won made me more confident. I am determined to do my best in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games,” said Tan

“In my opinion, it was not magic. It is pure hardwork and dedication.”

Tan captured the gold medals in the 51st Singapore International Open last June and the 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Malaysia last May.

He also seized the men’s open masters crown of the Philippine International Open in Mandaluyong City.

Tan had a bronze medal finish in the Under-22 event of the 5th Fukuoka Summer Cup Bowling tourney last August before recently winning two titles in the first METBA-Davao Kadayawan Bowling Open Championships in Davao City.

Despite those accomplishments, Tan sees more improvement needed from him. He says he does not feel at the top of his game yet.

“I feel I'm not in my peak yet, because I am just doing my best in every competition I play.”

Besides Tan, Kenneth Chua, Alexis Sy, Lara Posadas, Patrick Nuqui, Liza Del Rosario, Frederick Ong and Raoul Miranda, among others, are also determined to secure spots for the SEA Games.
