Mintah sizzles anew as Kaya Iloilo romps Mendiola

By Ivan Saldajeno

BIÑAN—Jordan Mintah went berserk on Wednesday night as Kaya Iloilo tightened up the PFL title race with a 5-1 rout of Mendiola at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa.

Mintah began his brilliant performance early into the match, scoring two quick goals in the 15th and the 19th minutes to put Kaya Iloilo ahead, 2-0.

Ricki Sendra got one back for Mendiola in the 27th minute as the team entered halftime down by one, keeping its shot at another upset alive.

However, Mintah restored order early in the second half as he completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute for the 3-1 count.

Masa Omura also got a goal as he drilled in a header in the 66th minute before Mintah iced the game with a 77th minute penalty.

Kaya Iloilo, with 47 points, is now just six points behind idle Ceres Negros (53) for the top spot.

However, Ceres Negros also had its match against Global Makati canceled twice.

The league has yet to decide on whether it will declare forfeitures for the said matches.

Both title contenders will return to play on Saturday night at the Aboitiz Pitch.

Kaya Iloilo will battle Stallion Laguna in the first game at 4 p.m., while Ceres Negros will take on home team Green Archers United in the main game at 7 p.m.
