U22 Azkals open "Copa" bid with stunner over GAU

LIPA--The Azkals' under-22 team made a huge splash to begin its campaign in the Copa Paulino Alcantara after shocking Green Archers United, 1-0, at the latter's home, the Aboitiz Pitch, on Sunday night.

Chima Uzoka proved to be the difference as the U22 Azkals got a quick breakthrough in their gear-up for the Southeast Asian Games.

Uzoka, who was getting clean looks against the GAU backline, struck the match's only goal, a 51st minute header off a corner kick, to give the Nationals the win.

Following Mendiola's shock 2-2 draw with Ceres Negros the night before, the U22 Azkals are now suddenly on top of Group A with the full three points.

On the other hand, GAU remains without a point after the opening weekend of the PFL's cup tournament.

Worse, Greggy Yang, who was on the bench, was sent off for excessive complaining late into the match.
