Letran escapes San Beda, leads NCAA Finals

PASAY CITY - The Letran Knights handed the first loss of the San Beda Red Lions all NCAA Season 95 long in the opener of their finals series, 65-64, Tuesday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Fran Yu once again led the Knights to victory, finishing the game off with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

"This win is a blessing for the team and the whole of the Letran community. Kung destiny yung championship sa atin [then we will work hard for it]. I just want to give back the trust na binigay sa akin [ng Letran]," said Letran Head Coach Bonnie Tan after the game.

San Beda were not able to go further than leading 6 points as Letran kept looming around, preventing to trail by a big margin.

Both teams entertained their respective faithfuls to a finals series full of action, with the game earning 7 deadlocks and 14 lead changes.

Evan Nelle lead the Red Lions with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.

The finals series continues on Friday still at the Mall of Asia Arena.
