Letran upsets Lyceum, schedules finals date with San Beda

PASAY CITY - The Letran Knights came well prepared in another "Battle of Intramuros" as they gave their neighbours, the Lyceum Pirates a  92-88 upset in the second round of the NCAA men's basketball stepladder playoffs at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday night.


With the win, the Knights booked another finals date with the San Beda Red Lions, beginning on Tuesday.

After leading in the first quarter, the Pirates found themselves trailing by 4, 40-44 at halftime.

Letran led by as much as 10 points at the beginning of the 3rd, but Lyceum was quick to recover and eventually led by a point, 58-57, after Jaycee Marcelino scored a triple.

Both teams engaged in an exchange of baskets, but Letran sealed the quarter off with a 67-66 edge.

Letran led by as much as 10 points with over 4 minutes left in the game, only to be chased by Lyceum in the dying minutes of the quarter.

Free throws coming from Jerrick Balanza and Fran Yu pulled the Knights to safety, as the Pirates lost time to catch up.
