Makati rallies late to edge Imus to go solo 2nd in MPBL North

By Ivan Saldajeno

BINAN--Makati reclaimed solo second place in the MPBL North Division after turning back Imus, 69-64, at the Alonte Sports Arena on Tuesday night.

The Skyscrapers grind it out in the final two minutes after the Bandera came alive in the second half following a first half shutdown.

Makati held Imus to just 26 points in the first half and took a nine-point lead at halftime.

However, the Bandera slowly crawled back and even took a 62-61 lead with 2:03 to play.

Free throws eventually won it for the Skyscrapers as charities from Jong Baloria and Ced Ablaza decided the game even as they held the Bandera scoreless for all but the last 10 seconds of the game.

Baloria tallied 22 points, five rebounds, and one steal for Makati, which moved up to 16-3, a full game behind San Juan, which is playing Binan City later Tuesday, for the top position in the North.

Ablaza added 20 points, two rebounds, one steal, and one block.

Jojo Cunanan paced Imus, which fell to 5-14, with 19 markers, three boards, three dimes, and one swipe.
