PHISGOC COO Tats Suzara meant it when he said a few weeks ago that the opening ceremonies of the Southeast Asian Games will be similar to the Superbowl halftime show.

A tribute to Filipino culture was the theme of the production numbers during the biennial meet's opening rites at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue.

And fans who either watched the event live in flesh or on ABSCBN took to Twitter their happiness that the Philippines pulled off a SEA Games opening ceremonies for the ages.

"What a world class SEAGames 2019 opening, indeed," said Taliyah.
"I still can’t believe how beautiful the opening ceremony is. World-class hosting from the Philippines! Kuddos to all people behind this success. Mabuhay," added Twitter curator #WalangPasok.
Roli Manuel chimed in and said, "The opening ceremony impressed me so much. A beautiful showcase of our arts, talents, and OPM- our true Filipino culture! What a start! This makes me so proud and happy!"
Meanwhile, Twitter user AJ commended Elmo Magalona and KZ Tandingan for their performance of the songs "Man from Manila" and "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy" respectively.
On the other hand, upon seeing sports legends Alvin Patrimonio, Eric Buhain, Akiko Thomson-Guevarra, Lydia De Vega-Mercado, Paeng Nepomuceno, Onyok Velasco, Efren "Bata" Reyes, and Bong Coo carrying the SEA Games, Christine Joy could not help but recall the time that she had to remember those names for her HEKASI class.
The aforementioned athletes were not the only special guests in the opening rites as photos from Senator Bong Go revealed that Patrimonio's fellow PBA legend Robert Jaworski was also present.

Jaworski's bosom buddy, Mon Fernandez, also graced the SEA Games opener as a commissioner of the PSC.

The event concluded with the lighting of the SEA Games cauldron at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas.

Although Manila Bulletin's Nick Giongco reported that the lighting part was already pre-recorded in a test run on Sunday, seeing Manny Pacquiao and Nesthy Petecio lighting the controversial cauldron still gave goosebumps to some netizens like Yukiyo.
The hashtags #SEAGames2019 and #30thSEAGames were the top trending topics on Twitter worldwide during the opening rites.
