MANILA - Stephan Schrock delivered a dedicated goal straight from the corner as the Young Azkals won a crucial SEA Games men's football game vs Malaysia, 1-0, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Friday night.

The host team now needs another win vs. Timor Leste on Wednesday in Binan City, Laguna for them to advance in the semifinal round.

Malaysian Adam Nor Azlin had an early crack at the goal with a free kick in the 22nd minute, but goalie Anthony Pinthus easily caught the ball.

The Young Azkals were aggressive offensively with many goal attempts, but they couldn't able to convert as both teams entered halftime still scoreless.

In the 66th minute, Jarvey Gayoso carried the ball to the penalty area as he successfully left two Malaysians on his way, but he missed out on the golden opportunity as he eventually lost the ball.

Despite the Schrock goal that came in the 72nd minute, the Harimau looked so dangerous especially that Muhammad Abdul Razak  tried a long bomb in the 80th minute, but the said attempt went wide.

This is the first time the Philippine squad won against Malaysia in the SEA Games men's football event after 28 years, or after a team led by Norman Fegidero won on the same ground against Malaysia, 1-0, in the 1991 SEA Games competition.
