Hallasgo, Tabal take Top 2 in women's marathon

MANILA -- Christine Hallasgo and Mary Joy Tabal opened the Philippines' medal quest in the Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the New Clark City Stadium in Capas on a high note after going 1-2 in women's marathon.


Hallasgo finished first in the event, clocking two hours, 56 minutes and 56 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Tabal followed suit and finished the 42-kilometer race in two hours and 58 minutes to take silver.

However, Tabal was stretched out of the stadium as she collapsed after crossing the finish line.

Vietnamese long-distance runner Pham Thi Hong Le completed the podium as she took home the bronze with three hours and two minutes.

On the men's side, Agus Prayogo claimed the gold medal as the Indonesian finished the course in two hours and 26 minutes.

Thailand's Sanchai Namkhet and Malaysia's Muhaizar Mohamad completed the podium, finishing second and third, respectively.
