Isaac Go number 1 in special Gilas Men draft

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA—As highly anticipated, Isaac Go was selected as the first overall pick of the 2019 PBA Draft on Sunday at the Robinson's Place Manila Atrium.

Columbian selected the Ateneo stretch-5 ahead of 70 other draft applicants in the said proceedings.

However, the Dyip may have to wait for up to three years before they can formally acquire Go as he is part of the Gilas Cadets who are being prepped up for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

In fact, Go was selected first in a special Gilas round that also involved fellow "23 for '23" member Matt Nieto and new additions Rey Suerte, Allyn Bulanadi, and Mike Nieto.

Blackwater took Suerte second overall, NLEX picked Matt Nieto third overall, Alaska selected Bulanadi fourth overall, and Rain Or Shine chose Mike Nieto fifth overall.

Like Go, Suerte, the Nieto Twins, and Bulanadi will not immediately join their new clubs as they will stay with the Gilas Cadets program until they will be released.
