La Union stays unbeaten in NBL President's Cup with win over ParaƱaque

MANILA—La Union bagged its second win in as many tries, beating ParaƱaque, 95-86, last Saturday in the National Basketball League (NBL) Season 3 Black Arrow Express-President’s Cup at the AFP Wellness Center in Quezon City.

Jonathan Ablao waxed hot, scoring 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting from threes to lift the Paower to a 2-0 record and take solo lead in Group B.

Ian Rhalf Llona and Kirk Andrew Agulan had 16 and 12 points each for Paower to win the game despite the absence of Michelle Maynes due to an injury.

In other results, Quezon City, Laguna, and Pasig notched their first win in the first conference of the league for homegrown basketball talents.

The QC Defenders leaned on Ferdinand Barde’s 21-point performance to beat the Lifenet Corp. Caloocan Executives, 93-86, for a 1-1 win-loss card last Saturday.

The Laguna Pistons trounced the Marikina Best Shoemakers, 101-78, last Sunday for a 1-1 record as well at the Jesus Dela Pena Gymnasium in Marikina with Alexis Hilario finishing with 22 points in the win.

Joshua Diaz fired 29 points as the Pasig El Pirata stunned erstwhile unbeaten CamSur Express, 92-81, to capture their first win after two games.

The league takes a Christmas break before resuming action on Jan. 4.
