MANILA—New Zealand ambassador David Strachan warmly congratulates the Philippine Volcanoes on their win against defending champion Malaysia to bring back the gold medal to the Philippines.

The Volcanoes dominated the game and finished the match with a score of 19–0.

New Zealand also congratulates the Lady Volcanoes for winning silver in the 2019 South East Asian Games.

“We are proud to have former All Blacks player Frano Botica coach the Philippine Volcanoes, alongside David Johnston, the Canadian co-coach”, Ambassador Strachan said after the historic win.

Ambassador Strachan was in Clark to support the Volcanoes in the two day tournament. The national team drew on talented Filipinos from all over the world, including two Kiwi-Pinoys.

All the players and the support of Filipinos, Philippine Rugby Football Union and sponsors contributed to the resounding success of the Volcanoes and Lady Volcanoes performance in the games.

“We look forward to more victories from the Volcanoes in the international arena. The successes at the SEA Games will hopefully be a catalyst for the further growth of rugby in this country,” said Strachan.
