MANILA—The Philippines got a boost in dancesport as it
contributed five golds and one silver medal to the country’s medal haul at the
start of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Royce Hotel in Clark, Pampanga Sunday.
Ana Manalo Nualla and Sean Mischa Aranar nabbed three gold
medals, including the win in the Open Category as the host nation cemented its
dominance early on in the event, which makes its SEAG return after 12 years.
Nualla and Aranar got a total of 151.35 points to win the
Open title, while also nabbing the standard
Tango (30.15 points) and Viennese Waltz categories (30.10 points).
Meanwhile, the pair of Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy
Renigen also made their presence felt with two golds in the Standard Single
Waltz and Slow foxtrot while finishing second in the Standard quickstep
category.
Seven more golds will be up for grabs in the Latin American
category and men’s break dancing events which will happen in the afternoon.
