SEAG: Canoeing, windsurfing postponed due to 'Tisoy'

By Ricky Manliguis

MANILA-- The organizers of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games has decided to postpone the scheduled games today for canoe-kayak and windsurfing due to Typhoon "Tisoy".

Local weather bureau PAGASA, Typhoon “Tisoy” is expected to make landfall in the Bicol region by late Monday or early Tuesday, and  is expected to cause “frequent to continuous heavy rains” in Bicol, Metro Manila, Zambales, Pampanga, Calabarzon, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Bataan, and Bulacan.

Windsurfing was supposed to be scheduled from Nov. 28 to Dec.9 at the Lighthouse Jetty Area and Subic Bay Yacht Club, while Canoe-kayak was slated Dec, 6-8 at Malawaan Park in Olongapo City.

"We really need to reschedule the games kasi nga po medyo malakas 'yung bagyo and may typhoon signal warning na po tayo so automatic po kasi kapag Kay signal na kailangan talaga I postpone muna ang games," said Bonnel Perez, one of the managers in charge for canoe kayak and traditional boat race.

Competitions will be rescheduled to a latter date, preferably December 5, according to the organizers.

“It will be moved to a date when weather will be clear of typhoon,” said SEA Games Subic Cluster Chairman and lawyer Ramon Agregado said on Sunday.

They are also considering whether sailing competitions will also be re-scheduled.
