Marikina goes on mid-Q4 rage to edge Paranaque

PASAY--Marikina went on a mid-fourth quarter barrage to turn back Paranaque, 89-82, in the MPBL Lakan Season at the Valenzuela City Astrodome on Friday night.

Up by just three, 69-66, with 8:04 left in the no bearing game between also ran squads, the Shoemasters went on the deciding 16-5 run to open an 85-71 cushion with 3:42 remaining that they never relinquished.

“Ngayon hindi kami nag lapse nung last kasi problem namin yun lagi e, yung end game. Ngayon kahit papaano, maganda rin yung addition ni [Ato] Ular talaga sa amin, nagcocompliment siya kay Jondan Salvador saka kay [Yves] Sazon,” said Coach Elvis Tolentino after the win.

Jayboy Solis still tried to carry the fight for the Patriots, going on a personal 11-4 run for the final tally.

Sazon led Marikina, which scored just its fifth win of the season, with 33 points on six triples, six rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Ular added 25 points, 17 rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

Solis put up 26 points, six rebounds, two steals, and three blocks for Paranaque, which fell to 8-19.
