PASAY--Lester Alvarez came alive in the final round to win the MPBL All-Star 3-Point Shootout at the Mall of Asia Arena on Thursday night.

The Bulacan point guard scored 24 points in the last phase of the contest highlighted by a perfect clip from top of the key to beat Nueva Ecija's James Martinez and Bicol's Jerome Garcia for the PHP50,000 pot.

Martinez, who exploded for 25 points in the first round, could only make 20 in the final round as he ended up short of the shootout title for the second straight year.

Meanwhile, Garcia, who had to beat GenSan's Mikey Williams in a tiebreaker to make the finals, had 17.

Martinez, Garcia, Williams, and the rest of the competitors, San Juan's John Wilson, Navotas' Mikee Cabahug, Bacoor City's Rocky Acidre and Mark Pangilinan, Rizal's Jordan Rios, Zamboanga's Anton Asistio and Robin Rono, and Cebu's Rhaffy Octobre each got PHP10,000 as consolation prize.
