BACOOR--Davao Occidental ensured its return to the MPBL South Division Finals after clinching its divisional semifinal tie with Zamboanga through a 62-58 Game 2 win at the Bacoor City STRIKE Gymnasium here on Thursday night.

Davao Occidental pulled away early in the fourth quarter, going on a 15-4 run to open a 59-45 lead with 5:49 left.

Zamboanga still tried to mount a comeback through a 13-2 run that trimmed the lead down to three, 61-58, with 58 seconds left.

The team even had a chance to force overtime as it forced Mark Yee to an airballed three-pointer in the next play, but Anton Asistio muffed a long trey that could have tied the game and Bonbon Custodio iced the game with a split from the charity stripe.

Ken Mocon led Davao Occidental, which will either face Bacoor City or Basilan in the South finals next week, with 14 points on 4-of-8 triples and one rebound off the bench. Chester Saldua added eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Robin Roño came up with 15 markers, two rebounds, three dimes, and one steal for Zamboanga, the lowest seeded team to make the league quarterfinals.
