MANILA—For three months starting today, Filipinos from all walks of life may nominate their sports idols who have made a mark of excellence between 1924 to 1994.

The Philippine Sports Hall of Fame (PSHOF) Review and Evaluation Committee opened the process of nomination today which is the first phase of selection for the fourth batch of inductees.

Republic Act No. 8757 also known as the PSHOF Act opens the nomination for amateur and professional athletes and coaches/trainers who brought distinction and honor to the country in their respective sport, either as an athlete, coach or trainer.

The 2020 selection committee, headed by Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez, followed previous committees' resolve to have only ten inductees.

The nominees need to have a wide, historic and unprecedented global impact by winning a gold, silver or bronze medal in prestigious international competitions such as the Summer Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games and Southeast Asian Games.

In their first meeting convening as the selections committee, the body set the start of nominations to March, to run until May 31. They will then be assisted by the review committee in screening the nominees. “We recognize the valuable knowledge of our sports chroniclers when it comes to this, so we will ask for their help,” said the sports agency chief during the said meeting.

Ramirez is joined in the selection committee by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham Tolentino as vice chairman, with members comprised of POC Secretary-General Atty. Edwin Gastanes, Games and Amusement Board Chairman Abraham Mitra, Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines Secretary-General Atty. Avelino Sumagui, SEA Games gold medalist and Philippine Olympians Association President Akiko Thomson Guevara and, University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Executive Director Atty. Rene Saguisag Jr.

Nomination forms may be downloaded from the PSC website and Facebook accounts. Different universities, government, and private offices will also be sent forms to encourage more nominations. The deadline for submission of nominations shall be on May 31.
