MANILA--The Philippine NBA 2K team accomplished a 5-0 sweep of Indonesia in the FIBA Esports Open after a 71-35 win in the final game of their series on Sunday night.
Despite an early scare from Indonesia, the Philippines waxed hot just before halftime and took complete control of the match in the second half.
Looking to salvage some pride, the Indons seemed to have finally solved the Filipino puzzle after staying toe to toe with their opponents in the first quarter before taking a 14-9 lead early in the second quarter.
Off a timeout, however, the Philippines regained control of the game with an 8-0 run and eventually finished the first half on a 13-2 rally to take a 22-16 lead entering the final 10 minutes.
The Philippines broke away in the second half and even came just close to opening a 40-point cushion before settling for the 36-point winning margin.
Despite only scoring eight points, Custer Galas' lockdown defense set the tone for the Philippines especially down the stretch, earning him Best Player honors.
