MANILA--Aljon Cruzin waxed hot for the Philippine team as it pummeled Indonesia in back-to-back games to start the FIBA Esports Open on Friday night.
Cruzin, behind his hot scoring, nearly outscored his opponents in the first two games of their best-of-five series as the Filipino side scored blowout wins to open their campaign in the Southeast Asian Conference.
Playing the point guard spot, Cruzin played like a "point god", dropping 22 points in Game 1 along with three rebounds and seven assists to lead the Philippines to a 56-29 wire-to-wire win over Indonesia.
Indonesia had a shot at getting back at the Philippine team in Game 2, even taking the lead in the second quarter.
But a run to end the period did the trick for the Philippines as it finished the job with a 64-30 win behind a 23-point performance from Cruzin.
The Philippines can clinch the series against Indonesia in Game 3 on Saturday night, but even if that happens, the last two games of the series, Game 4 also on Saturday night and Game 5 on Sunday night, will still be played.
