MANILA--Senator Dick Gordon expressed his disappointment about the PBA's decision to hand out stiff sanctions to TNT assistant coach Tab Baldwin for his much talked about statements in a recent podcast.
"The PBA’s recent decision to suspend Tab Baldwin and fine him for his comments about the league, its officiating and the country’s local coaches is uncalled for," Gordon said in a statement on Thursday night.
Baldwin, who is also Ateneo's head coach in the UAAP, was slapped with a three-game ban plus a PHP75,000 fine for his remarks during the Coaches Unfiltered podcast that did not sit well with the PBA and many Filipino coaches.

For Gordon, a former member of the university's Blue Babble Battalion, the PBA should have understood the context where Baldwin was standing.
"The association should have looked at the message and not shot the messenger," the senator continued. "You may not agree with him but you don’t penalize him."
He then lauded Baldwin for his "discipline, team offense, team defense, next man up" formula that helped form the current dynasty the Blue Eagles are enjoying.
"I think he is one of the finest coaches that ever came in to the Philippines. Our players are good but they need coaching and they need to be disciplined. Not listening to him is our loss," the statement concluded.
