MANILA--It is official: Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3 is now a professional league.

The premier 3x3 basketball league in the country is now a certified play-for-pay cagefest as announced in an online press conference on Wednesday night.

"We’d like to announce that in the board meeting of the Games and Amusements Board yesterday, we have received and accepted the interest of Chooks-to-Go 3x3 to turn professional," GAB chairman Baham Mitra said.

He and Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3 commissioner Eric Altamirano then signed a memorandum of agreement to make things formal

Formed last year, the Chooks 3x3 league aimed at raking up needed FIBA 3x3 points for the Philippines to qualify for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The league succeeded at its purpose as Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 will indeed play in the OQT set early next year in Austria.

Now, the Chooks 3x3 cagefest is set to go another level as it just attained the GAB sanction it rightfully deserves.

I’d like to thank the Games and Amusements Board headed by chairman Baham Mitra for allowing our sports organization, Chooks-to-Go PIlipinas 3x3 to become a professional league. You know, this will provide our local players the opportunity to explore possibilities as a professional career in the 3x3.

The second season of the Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3 is scheduled to start in the third weekend of September barring the latest development in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, the league is eyeing to hold the games in a bubble format inside the Inspire Sports Academy within the National University campus in Calamba.
