MANILA--For the past few days, the sacred grounds of the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium had been jampacked with people.

But it was not for a baseball game.

The stadium was turned into a shelter for stranded individuals, including hundreds of members from indigenous communities, that are waiting for available transportation to bring them home to their respective provinces.

Sadly, food has been scarce for the displaced individuals for the past 24 hours.

That is why in coordination with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Uling Roasters, one of the chain of rotisseries of Bounty Agro Ventures Inc., donated thousands of packed meals to them.

"We cannot leave our countrymen behind in those conditions -- we cannot leave them hungry and turn a blind eye on them, especially our IPs," said BAVI president Ronald Mascariñas.

"Many of them don't have enough money in their pockets for the high cost of food here in Manila. That is why we are assuring them that we will send over packs of ready-to-eat meals until they are able to get back home."

Besides the thousands inside the stadium, there are also hundreds of stranded individuals living outside the complex.

It is still unknown when they can be finally home.
