MANILA--The SBP is still waiting for the IATF to give more details about the approved protocols on the resumption of pro sports practices before it can reorganize the training sessions for the Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 squad for the FIBA 3x3 OQT.

"We will convene the group once magkaroon ng more firm plans," Butch Antonio, SBP's operations director, said on Tuesday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum. "We're still waiting for details nung pag-payag ng IATF to allow practice ng mga players."

Executive Director Sonny Barrios confirmed that the SBP has yet to receive a copy of the approved guidelines.

"We cannot really plan concretely what to do without specific guidelines especially from the authorities," Barrios rued.

Mainly for the sake of having Gilas 3x3 train again despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3, the chief backer of the squad, sought help from GAB in submitting its own practice protocols independent from the one the PBA gave.

On Friday, the IATF approved the resumption of practices in professional basketball including that of the Chooks 3x3 league, which according to GAB is seeking to become de jure pro.

On the other hand, Antonio said that the SBP has already advised the Gilas teams to remain on guard during the pandemic.

"Before nung advice ng IATF na pwede nang mag-practice, we advised all of our national teams in their eagerness to get back into action, 'We should exercise caution and always follow the protocols to the strictest level,'" he added.
