Denice Zamboanga stays unbeaten, submits Thai foe

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Make that 2-0 for the Zamboanga siblings on Friday night.

Denice Zamboanga followed up on her older brother's impressive victory at One: A New Breed, scoring a submission win of her own against Watsyapinya Kaewkhong at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.

It was a total domination for Zamboanga, never giving Kaewkhong an inch early into the contest.

Afterward, when Zamboanga brought the game to the ground, she performed an Americana grapple that forced Kaewkhong to tap out at the 1:29 mark of the very first round.

Zamboanga solidified her status as the number one ranked women's atomweight fighter at One as she moved up to 8-0.

Meanwhile, KC Carlos failed in her bid to kick off her stint at One on a high note after Wondergirl Fairtex got the better of her in their muay thai bout.

Wondergirl was just too much for Carlos, and the former's powerful strikes forced a fracture on the latter's nose, prompting the ring physician to step in and stop the fight midway into Round 2.
