Hidilyn Diaz wins online tournament

MANILA, Philippines - Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz came up with her impressive showcase of worldclass lifting abilities that even the pandemic can't her proving dominance in the concluded 2020 Eleikja Email International Lifter Tournament done online, Thursday night.

The 2019 SEA Games gold medalist lifted 216 kilograms - 95 in snatch and 121 for clean and jerk - to suppress opponents from 63 nations in the 59-kg division.

She outclassed Fatima Yakabu of Australia, Johanni Taljaard of South Africa, the eventual silver and bronze settlers. They registered 189 and 188 kilograms respectively.

"I was supposed to compete today (Monday) in Tokyo 2020, I imagined the crowd would be full of Filipinos cheering for my win in Olympics but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Olympics was moved to July 23 - August 8, 2021, that imagination got blurred," said Diaz in her Facebook page showing her lift.

The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist is actually a few steps away from sealing a slot for Tokyo games as she is bruising with three Chinese for lone spot for Asia to compete in 55-kg class. Diaz looks to better her silver medal finish in the Rio Olympics in 2016.
