MANILA--United City has finally found a new head coach.

Co-owner Eric Gottschalk confirmed on Wednesday that his group made an agreement with someone to replace Risto Vidakovic as the club's chief tactician for the upcoming PFL season and the resumption of the AFC Cup.

"Last night, we have agreed in principle on a head coach for the football club," Gottschalk said in an online press conference.

Gottschalk did not name the new coach, but he hinted, "We have been able to get a commitment from a coach who has the experience of guiding teams to trophies within Asia as well as having the relevant experience on the AFC Cup level, which is one of the most important things."

He also said that the new coach "also has a track record of making sure that the young players are gonna be integrated into the first team," adding that a teenager can make a start for the former Ceres Negros squad.

United City recently signed former FEU-FERN star Pocholo Bugas, marking only the second time in all of Philippine sports that someone made a jump from high school to the pros, and Gottschalk's revelation could mean Bugas can get significant minutes for United City.

Gottschalk later said that the new coach, which is currently overseas due to travel restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, was chosen from a pool of seven candidates.

Gottschalk is expecting the new coach to send his signed contract to him anytime soon, and he will formally unveil the manager once he receives the contract.

"Within the next two days, we're probably gonna be able to announce the name formally," Gottschalk further said, implying that the coach may be revealed by Friday the latest.
