MANILA--It is official: Rhenz Abando, Ira Bataller, and Brent Paraiso are heading to Letran.

The three former UST Growling Tigers formalized their commitment to the Knights after a meeting with Head Coach Bonnie Tan and Letran's special rector for sports development Alfrancis Chua on Tuesday in Pasig.

Abando, Bataller, and Paraiso will undergo residency for the upcoming academic year, but on when they become eligible to play is an interesting one.

Unlike the UAAP where they really need to sit out one full season, there is a possibility that Abando, Bataller, and Paraiso can immediately play for NCAA Season 96 as the NCAA quickly clears transfer student athletes for eligibility right after they attended their new college for one academic year.

Letran, interestingly the host school for Season 96, looks to begin the NCAA season by early 2021, but if it chooses to have Season 96 open by September next year instead, then Abando, Bataller, and Paraiso will become eligible for the Knights for the upcoming season.

The three players bid adieu to UST amid the ongoing probe on the alleged bubble the team had in Capuy, Sorsogon during the midyear.

The Commission on Higher Education will send a show cause order to the school to explain why it should not be penalized for the bubble, which at that time was not yet allowed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
