MANILA—EJ Obiena continues to impress in his road to Tokyo after scoring another podium finish at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix early Saturday (Philippine Time).
The Filipino pole vaulter finished joint third behind eventual winner Piotr Lisek and silver medalist Robert Sobera of host country Poland.
Matt Ludwig of the United States also got a bronze medal finish alongside Obiena.
Obiena cleared 5.52 meters but missed out on 5.62, a far cry from his win in Ostrava, Czech Republic where he cleared a season best 5.74.
Lisek was the runaway gold medalist after clearing 5.72 meters.
Sobera also just cleared 5.52 meters like Obiena and Ludwig, but Sobera took the tiebreaker as he cleared the said height in one try. Obiena and Ludwig needed two attempts.
Poland missed out on sweeping the podium as Pawel Wojciechowski failed to clear 5.37 meters.
Obiena's European tour continues with the Rome Diamond League on Thursday, but he may be invited to join the Istaff Berlin Continental Tour on Sunday.
