MANILA—John Riel Casimero put an end to Duke Micah's perfect run after knocking him out in their WBO bantamweight title showdown on Sunday (Philippine Time) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Casimero set up his dominance in the second round with a knockdown before finishing Micah off in the third.
Micah actually rocked Casimero a bit with a right hook late into Round 1.
Casimero recovered in Round 2 and delivered a left hook that sent Micah down the canvas.
Micah still got up, but Casimero put on a clinic with his power shots, nearly knocking Micah out before the end of the round.
The ring physician took a look at Micah before clearing him for Round 3, but after a series of upper cuts from Casimero, referee Steve Willis had seen enough and stopped the contest.
Casimero moved up to 30-4 in his career with 21 knockouts.
Micah, on the other hand, failed in his first world title shot and lost for the first time in his career after 24 consecutive victories.
