MANILA—Despite what seemed like an unceremonious exit at Phoenix, Coach Louie Alas still gave thanks to its team management.

"Coaching the Phoenix Fuel Masters [for] the past three years has been a great honor and privilege, and I thank the entire management headed by Boss Dennis Uy for giving me all the support during my tenure," Alas said in a statement on Saturday, a day after the Fuel Masters relieved him as head coach.

Behind Alas, Phoenix soared to a breakthrough semifinal appearance in last year's Philippine Cup.

However, the team failed to duplicate the feat in the import spiced conferences.

Worse, the Fuel Masters' main man, Calvin Abueva, has been indefinitely banned for his unsportsmanlike conduct on TNT KaTropa Terrence Jones in their Commissioner's Cup game.

Looking to begin a new chapter in its franchise history, Phoenix let go of Alas and named Topex Robinson as interim coach for the postponed PBA season.

"I wish Coach Topex and the entire team nothing but the best in their future endeavors," Alas' statement concluded.
