MANILA—In what looks like another step toward his much anticipated return, the Games and Amusements Board decided to give embattled Phoenix swingman Calvin Abueva his professional license back.

"After due deliberation by the board, we have decided to reinstate the professional basketball license of Mr. Calvin Abueva," GAB chairman Baham Mitra said on Friday.

Following the indefinite suspension the PBA slapped on Abueva last year, GAB also opted to put his license on hold as well.

Abueva's unsportsmanlike actions on TNT import Terrence Jones and actress Maika Rivera prompted the league to take action and ban Abueva.

"Calvin Abueva was remorseful in what he did and was sincere enough to accept his wrongdoings and asked for an apology for his actions with a promise not to repeat the same mistakes and set a good example to the audience especially the young fans," Mitra further said.

To formalize the reinstatement, GAB asked Abueva to undergo a seminar regarding the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete and a mandatory drug test.
