MANILA - Barangay Ginebra San Miguel took home a 102-92 win against the NLEX Road Warriors to start their chase to the PBA Philippine Cup title on a high note at the Angeles University Foundation Gym, Sunday night.
Aljon Mariano led Barangay Ginebra with 20 points on a 63 percent field goal percentage while also claiming five boards and four assists.
With both teams even at 48 at halftime, Jared Dilinger burst with five straight point, respectively to advance their digits for the red shirts, 53-50, with 10:46 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Scottie Thompson buried a three-point attempt to spark the Gin Kings' mini breakaway where they built a nine-point lead, 66-57, with six minutes left in the period.
Anthony Semerad made it possible for the NLEX to force their threatening presence as his made triple cut their deficit to three, 85-82, capping 7-0 run at the start of 4th canto.
But Mariano prevailed all the way as he made his additional nine points to his pocket as Barangay Ginebra won the game safely.
JR Quinahan made 26 points while Kevin Alas tallied 16 with seven rebounds for the Road Warriors. Jericho Cruz contributed 11 points.
Dilinger ended his high note game with 12 points extracted to his impressive 67 percent conversion from trifecta, while Stanley Pringle listed 12 points, six rebounds and five dimes.
The Road Warriors will face the Magnolia Hotshots on Wednesday while Ginebra will take on the Blackwater Elite on Friday.
