MANILA--Barangay Ginebra registered its fourth straight win as it breezed past Phoenix Super LPG, 86-71, in Wednesday's second game of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup at the AUF Sports Arena in Angeles City.
Backed by a superb scoring gig from Stanley Pringle, the crowd darlings take a slice of the lead in the team standings alongside TNT Tropang Giga.
The 4-0 record was also the franchise's best start since the 1986 Open Conference, with legendary Robert Jaworski then at the helm.
What started out as a close game turned into a rout as Pringle led the charge in a 27-17 second quarter to grab a 47-36 halftime cushion.
They continued the rampage in the second half, while limiting the second-best scoring team to less than 20 points in the next two quarters, and held on from there.
Pringle finished the game with 20 points, including a 4-of-7 clip from three, aling with three rebounds and three assists. Prince Caperal continued his sterling play in the bubble with 14 points.
“Obviously, we played really good defense. I thought we played really well against Matthew Wright especially," said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.
Phoenix tasted its second consecutive loss to fall to an even 2-2 card. Jason Perkins and Wright issued 15 and 12 markers, respectively.
