Manila Chooks cleared to play in Doha Masters

MANILA--Manila Chooks got the green light to participate in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Doha Masters.

According to the team of Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Troy Rike, and Santi Santillan from the Qatari capital, they got text messages at 2 p.m. local time Tuesday (7 p.m. Philippine Time) confirming that they were tested negative of COVID-19.

Despite getting cleared, however, the team is only limited to dining inside the Marriott Marquis Center Doha Hotel for the meantime and can only roam around the building by Wednesday.

Santillan said that the limited movement is fine for the team is not here for a vacation.

"Business trip naman talaga ito," he said.

On what the team can do for the meantime, Pasaol, the team captain, said, "Review muna ng video at exercise muna rito sa kwarto."

The FIBA 3x3 World Tour Doha Masters happening this weekend will be played through a semi-bubble setup, that is, the teams will be strictly transported back and forth from Marriott to the Al Gharafa Sports Complex without any stopover.

The hotel and the arena are 12.1 kilometers apart.

The winner of the Doha Masters will receive US$40,000 (almost PHP1.93 million), while four runners-up will also get cash prizes.
