MANILA--Chris Newsome saved Meralco from a possible upset against cellar-dwelling Terrafirma with a game-winner that handed his team a 95-93 decision in their PBA Sunday match-up at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center.
Newsome scored a buzzer-beating fadeaway jumper that preserved the Bolts' win after the Dyip came back from eight points down with 2:31 left to force a 93-all deadlock.
Juami Tiongson actually had a chance to put Terrafirma up, but he missed a crucial field goal that gave Meralco an opportunity to win it, which Newsome took advantage of.
Raymond Almazan led the Bolts, who moved to a tie with the Alaska Aces in fourth place at 6-4, with 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal.
Bong Quinto added 14 points, eight rebounds, and one assist.
Tiongson and CJ Perez each tallied 21 points for the Dyip, who slipped to 1-8.
