MANILA--National athletes and coaches from eight team sports will also get the benefits that the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act has given to the Philippine Sports Commission.
The PSC announced on Wednesday that water polo, baseball, dragonboat, handball, ice hockey, softball, underwater hockey, and volleyball practitioners are set to get the remainder of their June and July allowances.
A total of 199 athletes and 39 coaches will benefit from this.
“A community coming together really makes a whole lot of difference,” said PSC chairman Butch Ramirez.
He then thanked the legislative chambers and President Rodrigo Duterte for making the so-called "Bayanihan 2" Act possible as well as Philippine Olympic Committee president and Cavite congressman Bambol Tolentino for the "instrumental help" to finally give the national athletes their full allowances.
Half of the national athletes' allowances have been set aside for additional financial aid in the country's strife to combat COVID-19.
The Bayanihan 2 Act also entitles national team sports athletes and coaches to receive allowances until December.
The PSC gets PHP180 million in financial aid thanks to the Bayanihan 2 Act, and the allowances will be released by early December, just in time for Christmas.
