MANILA—Sudan Daniel was an instrumental figure for the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 as one of its so-called "hypemen" alongside rapper Mike Swift.

"Sudan Daniel, better known as 'Superman', was the voice of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 when we needed it most," league founder Ronald Mascariñas said in a Facebook post on Sunday. "His was the distinctive sound that lent to the 3x3 games a joyous rhythm and spirit that gave us wings."

However, the day before, the former NCAA Most Valuable Player passed away due to asthma while on a Christmas vacation in Calatagan, which saddened Mascariñas among others.

"We can no longer bring back his voice in future games," he rued.

Despite Daniel's sudden passing, which came nine days after turning 33, Mascariñas wants to honor him for his contributions to the country's premier professional 3x3 league next year.

And the best way to do so is to pay tribute to him through the thing he became known for as one of San Beda's King Lions during the turn of the decade from 2009-2010.

"Starting next season, every dunk made during Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 games will be called the 'Superman Move of the Game'. Perhaps, this way, we can honor his memory by keeping some of his swag alive in us," Mascariñas announced.

So expect the league's high flyers like Chris Lalata to pay their final respects to Daniel through their rim rattlers.
